چکیده

We present a novel method for analysing space-time data when response data is given at a nite number of locations and the aim is to predict the response at a new location, where only a short run of data is available. This is the type of dataset that is typically available when attempting to analyse wind velocity data and we demonstrate our method, and compare it to that introduced by Haslett and Raftery (1989), on a set of data collected from the island of Crete in Greece. Typically the distance between locations is used to deene the correlation matrix between responses at distinct locations even though this cannot always be justiied. The peculiarity presented in our data is that the sites are in a complex topography so diierences in the local characteristics of the wind stations, the direction of the prevailing winds, and other unobserved covariates can all lead to unsuitable model tting. We use a nonparametric model to avoid these problems and demonstrate its predictive power in relation to the dataset under study.

The Importance of Distance to Resources in the Spatial Modelling of Bat Foraging Habitat

Many bats are threatened by habitat loss, but opportunities to manage their habitats are now increasing. Success of management depends greatly on the capacity to determine where and how interventions should take place, so models predicting how animals use landscapes are important to plan them. Bats are quite distinctive in the way they use space for foraging because (i) most are colonial centra...

Algorithms for global total least squares modelling of finite multivariable time series

In this paper we present several algorithms related to the global total least squares (GTLS) modelling of multivariable time series observed over a finite time interval. A GTLS model is a linear, time-invariant finite-dimensional system with a behaviour that has minimal Frobenius distance to a given observation. The first algorithm determines this distance. We also give a recursive version of t...

Modelling Departure Time, Destination and Travel Mode Choices by Using Generalized Nested Logit Model: Discretionary Trips (Research Note)

Despite traditional four-step model is the most prominent model in majority of travel demand analysis, it does not represent the potential correlations within different travel dimensions. As a result, some researches have suggested the use of choice modelling instead. However, most of them have represented travel dimensions individually rather than jointly. This research aims to fill this gap t...

Special Relativity-Type Space-Times Naturally Lead to Quasi-Pseudometrics

The standard 4-dimensional Minkowski space-time of special relativity is based on the 3-dimensional Euclidean metric. In 1967, H. Busemann showed that similar space-time models can be based on an arbitrary metric space. In this paper, we search for the broadest possible generalization of a metric under which a construction similar to Minkowski space-time leads to a physically reasonable space-t...
